Stability of Open Multiclass Queueing Networks via Fluid Models

چکیده
This paper surveys recent work on the stability of open multiclass queueing networks via fluid models. We recapitulate the stability result of Dai [8]. To facilitate study of the converse of the stability result, we distinguish between the notion of fluid limit and that of fluid solution. We define the stability region of a service discipline and the global stability region of a network. Examples show that piecewise linear Lyapunov functions are powerful tools in determining stability regions. Stability, queueing networks, fluid models, scheduling, performance analysis, Harris recurrence, heavy traffic, Brownian models.

On Positive Harris Recurrence of Multiclass Queueing Networks: a Uniied Approach via Fluid Limit Models
It is now known that the usual traac condition (the nominal load being less than one at each station) is not suucient for stability for a multiclass open queueing network. Although there has been some progress in establishing the stability conditions for a multiclass network, there is no uniied approach to this problem. In this paper, we prove that a queueing network is positive Harris recurren...

متن کاملStability of Fluid Networks with Proportional Routing
In this paper we investigate the stability of a class of two-station multiclass fluid networks with proportional routing. We obtain explicit necessary and sufficient conditions for the global stability of such networks. By virtue of a stability theorem of Dai [14], these results also give sufficient conditions for the stability of a class of related multiclass queueing networks. Our study exten...

For multiclass queueing networks, dispatch policies govern the assignment of servers to the jobs they process. Production policies perform the analogous task for queueing networks whose servers are subject to switch-over delays or setups, a model we refer to as setup networks. It is well known that a poorly chosen dispatch policy may lead to instability of a multiclass queueing network, even wh...
متن کاملStability and optimization of queueing networks and their fluid models
We describe some approaches to the synthesis of optimal policies for multiclass queueing network models based upon the close connection between stability of queueing networks and their associated fluid limit models. It is found that there is also a close connection between optimization of the network and optimal control of the far simpler fluid network model. This observation leads to a new cla...
